According to the most updated algorithm of google the ranking of a website is simply going to be based on the content and the interaction with people made by the website like number of visitor on the blog and comment and the question asked by the people on the blog as google is now focusing on the rich and user friendly content of the website to improve the search result of the blog.

Include and how the people go onto that site and the equation will be full, how people will find it when google do not index it because noone talks about it? You have to have links first no matter what.

Agreed, nubmer and quality of backlinks is base. Content and engagement with users are important things, but without base they are worth nothing.

Social media definitely has an effect on Rankings, I know this as the first thing I did with my site was to start tweeting about it in a slightly grey hat manner. I had no backlinks from anywhere else and managed to get my site ranking quite highly for one of my keywords. When I then added a couple of good backlinks I popped up onto page 1. I had a quick look in webmaster tools and it appears that several twitter scraping sites had picked up my links giving me some juice.

I'm not sure about ranking, but I have a lot of refferals from Linkedin and Google+ curiously enough

I test for my two sites - english and polish adding +1

Starting from around 100 - goal is 1000 - I get up to +30 per day... Already had 400 and see very small jump in rankings for but only for one domain. Give note when will finish this process...
