massive google update running

Interest comments late yesterday about an influx of webmasters receiving manual actions against their sites: https://www.webmasterworld.com/google/5102465-2-30.htm

I know it was alluded to in the original documentation that there would be some manual actions, sounds like Google are getting more cute on identifying and targeting sites that need a pair of human eyeballs on them.

Is this making anyone else feel a little nostalgic for the panda / penguin days?…

I think it’s going to get a little chaotic for a while. Maybe we should all just go on holiday for a couple of months and see what it all looks like when we come back

That's actually a decent plan. There's no way anyone can make changes until the dust settles. In the meantime, there will be ups and downs for some and nothing at all for others.

Sucks that this will inevitably cause some collateral damage and anxious nights for most people.

Ahrefs is updating its KW database, complicating a way to track lagged gains and losses.

Yeah this is not most ideal time for them to be monkeying around with it... although when they update their database they apply it historically, so you'll still be able to see trends up/down.

They say it should lead to 40% reduction in unhelpful content. Many huge sites received manual penalties and were wiped out already. Share your story.

Can't tell yet, all of the sites I checked using Ahrefs.com have lost KWs. Looks like Ahrefs.com is goofing around. Everyone can't be losing unless Wikipedia and Reddit will be replacing every major industry portal.

Suggest watching your index counts at Google Search Console. While different from KW rankings, a steady or improving index count suggests Google has a favorable opinion of your site.

Does anybody see change in impressions? I am losing traffic on all my sites (8years, 2.5 years and 6 months old websites).
Most of my posts disappeared and only the front pages are discoverable. No manual penalties in the GSC. Very weird case.
Just before the Update my traffic was going up and since yesterday all the posts are wiped out. Anybody experiencing the same issue?

Lost impressions on my sites.. every good site i follow also taking a huge hit, way more spam, parasite seo and pages that are broken or thin as can be ranking, I think the weekend will be when it really kicks in

Every site is losing keywords, except parasite and spam, i checked using 3 different tools and all sites evenb very good sites taking a massive drop.

Hmm, my gut says this is the early flush that won't hold. Do we really think the best among us (small, medium, and large affiliates) should all get universally hit?

Since the SERPs are zero sum, which sites will supplant the losing ones? (rhetorical)

I hate to say it, but sit tight. I really don't like waiting because it is unnerving, but that's all that can be done.

lot of spam, 301 redirecrs.. xyz in the top 10.. worse than usual, i think this will be ups and downs for a few weeks

I wonder if this is what they meant by not to panic during the beginning of the update? They sorta implied the 1st few sets of updates would not be the ultimate fix.

Hopefully, you're correct about that. I have yet to see any movement. So far, I've only made peanuts this month. It's only a matter of time before results start showing I guess.

The "site reputation" update isn't until May 5th. That is the parasite seo update.

Mine getting killed too, although GSC isn't matching up well with Analytics and Clarity etc. It doesn't look like pages are being de-indexed either so not sure what to make of it even though it looks awful.

I notice Quora and Reddit seem to be doing well out of this so far?

Seeing Quora and Reddit getting some featured "Q&A" snippets and panels on the first page. I'm not convinced these are necessarily the best or final results.

God help us if Quora takes the top 3 positions for most gambling SERPs. It will become a cesspool of spam and millions of "Helpful Blackjack Tips" chock full of affiliate redirects by superusers who got bought off.

I used to hate seeing Wikipedia dominate everything, but at least potential customers knew to look elsewhere for commercial info.

It's an attractive plan, but I don't think the dust will settle for a while, and I couldn't disconnect even if I wanted to. I'm taking a big hit this weekend, and I'd rather be on top of it even if it's just to lessen my anxiety.

SERPs are very fluid at present so I wouldn't get too disconcerted at this stage, big changes from day to day and in some cases hour to hour.
