Leopold,
To ensure the fairness of the draw I have devised a procedure that ensures no single person controls the selection process. If you are willing, I would like you to select the winner by picking one of the numbers below at random. Each number corresponds to one of the 44 contestants. There were more entries than that, but only because a few folks entered more than once and we did remove duplicates.
After you post the number you have chosen we will announce the winner, and also announce the method by which the numbers in the list were created. Our plan is to announce the winner in tomorrow's newsletter and in this thread.

Leopold (Roulette Zeitung), just a quick note that I am hoping you will pick the winner. The deadline for you to make a pick will be 4pm EST on March 25, since otherwise I won't be able to announce the winner in time for inclusion in the GPWA Times newsletter tomorrow. You can pick the first draw winner at random from the numbers I posted. For the second draw winner, you can pick any number given in this thread as a suggested winner by others.
If you do not make a selection by the deadline, I will ask Anthony and Universal4 to pick a first and second draw winner from among the numbers suggested by others as winning numbers in this thread.
So, up until the time the draws are posted in the thread, anyone reading this thread has the opportunity to influence which numbers are potential winners.

First Draw Winner
"I would like you to select the winner by picking one of the numbers below at random. Each number corresponds to one of the 44 contestants. [...] You can pick the first draw winner at random from the numbers I posted."
I sprayed some water with my spray bottle on my monitor, starting the width of my thumbs above the list and waited 11 seconds. The number under the thickest drop that remained hanging on the monitor was the winner.
The winner is 612.
Second Draw Winner
"For the second draw winner, you can pick any number given in this thread as a suggested winner by others."
Albert Einstein said: "God does not play dice." but in his later years he was firmly convinced that ?i>every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe-a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.?br />
So there is no wonder if I take for the 2nd draw winner - with all respect to the other suggestions - the pick from Rick, number 40. I know that this number has a great importance in Christianity.
I hope, the modest but real prices (One cannot say it often enough) makes the winners very happy. This increases the value and will be a wonderful memory.

Thank you, Leopold, for picking the winning numbers. And to everyone else for their participation in the drawing.
Leopold, I agree with you that the majesty of the universe is humbling. I say that as someone who has spent a great deal of time studying the elegant universe in which we live from the tiny world of elementary particle physics to the grandeur of cosmic evolution. Although I do have to take issue with Einstein regarding God rolling dice. As the executive directory of the Gambling Portal Webmasters Association, I firmly believe that if a God exists he or she certainly must have created a world where chance is central to the way things work.
In devising the approach to drawing winners, I wanted a simple approach that would be elegant in that no one person would control the outcome and in that anyone who entered could readily confirm that they were indeed entered and that they did or did not win.
I constructed a function that calculated a number between 0 and 999 based on GPWA forum names. Anyone can easily calculate the value of the function for any forum name. If you put a forum member name in cell A1 of an Excel spreadsheet, then the value of the function for that specific member name can be calculated as follows:
=MOD(LEN(A1)*LEN(A1)*LEN(A1)+UNICODE(A1)*UNICODE(R IGHT(A1)),1000)
I arrived at that particular function after playing around with formulas for a minute or two until I arrived at one that had unique values for each contestant.
I invite anyone who entered the contest to calculate the value of the function for their forum name, and thus confirm that they were indeed entered in the contest.
With that background information in place, I'm ready to announce the winners. The first draw winner, as selected by Leopold, is the GPWA member who entered the contest where the function given above yields a value of 612. And the second draw winner, as selected by Leopold and Universal4, is the GPWA member who entered the contest where the function given above yields a value of 40.
The first draw winner is doolally!
And the second draw winner is SSTH!
Congratulations winners!
And I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to WagerJoint Affiliates for sponsoring the contest. It is appreciated.
