Affiliate Company - Media Buying or SEO?

What would you choose to focus on in the 1st year of operating a gambling affiliate company?

I choose SEO content building. It gives you a chance to learn the industry in the first year. To get to understand what the players really want. If you start with PPC you are going to not know certain details that could cause your conversions to make it unsustainable. When google opened up PPC for affiliate sites the cost was about 24GBP per click on my converting keywords. If I didn't know already what the actual value was, then I'd suffer the same fate as let's say smartlivecasino.com at the time. I think the only reason that Google let affiliates advertise was to push the bid price of keywords for the brands themselves. So, smartlivecasino.com spent about 100 million.. then needed 2 more rounds of funding. From the press releases they spent more than 200 million or more their first 2 years.

Thank you for the detailed answer. I actually come from a gambling background, so I don't really need to lear nabout it (although we learn every day something new). My question was more from the financial perspective. While SEO takes time and money to start, PP activity might take a bit less time.

Definitely I think you should choose SEO after your websites starts to get some traffic you can start publishing ads and get more and more visitors.

SEO for sure! You need good base content but over time you will learn what are the best converting terms. So review for instance is a good one along with deposit bonus because you know the visitor is looking to make a deposit!

I think PPC / Media Buy is the first think a webmaster need to do. SEO takes time and it's for long time, while in PPC every time you pay, you get traffic. you will need to learn how to convert that traffic but your "time to market" and see conversions is faster. you can start SEO while doing PPC and get "free traffic" but most of the traffic will come from PPC and you will learn a lot of it , when your SEO traffic will be 50% of your traffic you can stop PPC and focus only in SEO

completely agree - combined SEO and content strategy with effective PPC campaign is a must

If you do not have a very large budget SEO is the only one way.

I fixed his links, for some reason database sticks the http: in there a second time on rare occasion.

I think SEO is the cheap and long-term way, but it needs to go the right way if not you will waste your 1st year

also u dont need to have lots of money to start doing something
